The first half of the Florida Panthers’ 2018-19 season is officially in the books.

It felt a little like watching “Groundhog Day.”

Minus the laughs.

Much like they did last season, the Panthers got off to a rough start and have a long road ahead of them just to get back into the playoff hunt.

Entering the 2018-19 season, the Panthers were thought to be a team that could — and probably should — compete for a playoff spot if everything went right. After the way they finished the season, anything else would be a major league disappointment.

But everything has not gone right. And here we are.

Thursday, as the team visits Edmonton for its 42nd game of the season, Florida is 10 points out of the playoffs.

Unless there are improvements in many areas — goaltending surprisingly topping the list — it could be yet another long offseason in South Florida.
