The New York Islanders have hired an Assistant GM to help out Lou Lamoriello and that is Steve Pellegrini who he worked with in New Jersey.
Once Lou Lamoriello made the call to move on from Garth Snow and Doug Weight big changes were expected. The New York Islanders added Steve Pellegrini to the fold to be the Assistant GM with Lou Lamoriello.
Pellegrini has been with the Devils since 2006, he served as vice president of hockey operation. His main task was contract negotiations, salary cap compliance, CBA issues and scouting too.
Bringing in someone who knows how to work the salary cap and is familiar with contract negotiations is fantastic. CapFriendly, who focuses their site fully on the salary cap, praised this hire citing Pellegrini’s experience working with the salary cap.
Yesterday, we heard how the Islanders may be looking to hire a coach within the next week and Lamoriello surprises us with an Assistant GM. It’s been exciting so far to watch him work and flip this organization.
With the draft coming up next week, there will likely be even more changes to the Islanders front office and the team as well. It’s a very busy, but also fun, time in Isles Land.
Isles Tweet of the Day
While in #Toronto, Lou Lamoriello likely saw the benefit of having someone on his team with a strong understanding of the CBA & the advantages of having someone well versed in the ins & outs of the salary cap.
Pellegrini spent eight seasons as VP of the NHL’s Central Registry. https://t.co/OF00ExUvpb
