After a rough year in net, New York Islanders goalie Thomas Greiss will be working with Adam Francilia this offseason.

2017-2018 is a year the New York Islanders would like to forget. They missed the playoffs by 17 points, spoiling a start that saw them towards the top of the Metro in November. Thomas Greiss was certainly an underwhelming part of the Islanders this past year.

In 27 games, Greiss had an .892 save percentage and a 3.82 goals against average. His goals against average was a career high for him. After having an impressive .612 quality start percentage last year it swan-dived down to a .360 in 2017-2018.

Greiss is under contract with the Islanders for two more years, so it’s imperative that he gets back on track. Greiss might be taking the proper steps to do just that.

Greiss will be working with goalie whisperer Adam Francilia. Francilia is a well-respected goalie coach, and someone Thomas Greiss is familiar with. Greiss worked with Francilia two years ago, and that’s when he put up his career-best season with the Islanders.

In 41 games, Greiss was 23-11-4 with a .925 save percentage and a 2.36 goals against average. He also stood on his head in the first round of the playoffs, outplaying veteran Roberto Luongo.

Hopefully, Greiss is able to return to his old form.
