In a seven-paragraph message posted to Twitter Friday night, former Sabres center Ryan O’Reilly thanked the Sabres organization and the City of Buffalo for the treatment he received during his three seasons with the team.

Wrote O’Reilly in part: “When I was traded here I had no idea what to expect. I was blown away by how much this city has to offer and all of the amazing people I met. I feel very privileged that I was able to call Buffalo my home.”

O’Reilly was traded to the St. Louis Blues on July 1 in the only 5-for-1 transaction in Sabres history. His message was posted on the Twitter feed of “The Instigators,” the Sabres’ daily radio show, and was retweeted by the club’s official account.

O’Reilly thanked owners Terry and Kim Pegula and then returned his thoughts to the fans.

“To the people of Buffalo, your unwavering support for your teams is inspirational,” he said. “You even made me a Bills fan! I also want to thank you for being so good to me and my family. I know we didn’t get the result you wanted but you are in great hands and have a bright future.”

O’Reilly then thanked several segments of the Sabres’ organization (management, coaches, trainers, doctors and support staff) and saved a final farewell for his former teammates.

“I wish you guys the best,” O’Reilly wrote. “I have made some lifelong friendships and I am grateful to have played with each and every one of you.”
